AAC is a general group, so all models of Citroën cars are welcome. If the group grows to big it is possible to create additional groups like alt.autos.citroen.xm.

Postings on this forum can be done in any language. If possible make clear in the subject field in what language you are posting. Like [PL] for Polish. A list of languages can be found here. If you want a large audience it is best to use English. You can use the free on-line translation services of Foreignworld or BabelFish for a translation.

It is preferred to make posts in plain text format. Posting in HTML are for a number of newsreaders unreadable. Some servers automatically delete postings with a size larger than 10kb and HTML postings can easily be bigger. A lot of people connect using a slow service. Check the help files of your newsreader on how to post in plain text.

Commercial postings and SPAM are not allowed. It is advised not to reply to this type of postings. Especially not if you copy the complete content of the message. If a posting is removed after you downloaded the message you still see the message since it is stored on your computer. Users that view the group after the message has been removed don't see the message. If you want to do something you could *ploink* the sender of the message. Another option is to send an abuse message to the abuse address you often can find in the headers of the offending message. There is a big FAQ file available if you have questions. Groups in the alt.* hierarchy are often viewed as *anything goes*. This is not true, this group has a charter.

If you need to sell your car, alt.autos.citroen is not the place. You could try news:alt.anzeigen.fahrzeuge.auto, news:fr.petites-annonces.vehicules, news:rec.autos.marketplace, news:ba.market.vehicles, news:de.markt.fahrzeug.auto, news:fj.fleamarket.autos, news:fl.forsale.auto, news:nyc.market.autos, news:nl.markt.vervoer or one of the other newsgroups that you can reach. You can also try one of the sites listed at CitroënWold with the great advantage you can usually also show a picture of you car. Groups in the alt.* hierarchy are often viewed as *anything goes*. This is not true, alt.autos.citroen has a charter.

If you have posted a message in error, you can remove that message. If you have MS Outlook Express (MSOE) you take the following steps. Select the message you have posted=>Message=>Cancel Message. MSOE will send a special message to your server and your server will remove that message. Other programs will use a similar method, take a look at the help files. You can only cancel messages *you* have posted. Not all servers honour cancels.

* Please be so kind to follow the netiquette rules when posting *

If you reply to a posting it is stronly preferred to reply below the quote of the original message.

The newsgroup is *not* moderated. Postings should relate to the Citroën automobiles. Possible topics are announcing fan gatherings, maintenance issues and vintage shows.

AAC is a non-binary group. The reasons are:
(o) The general retention time for binaries is a few days (sometimes a few hours), for a non-binary group the retention time is usually a week and longer.
(o) It is hard to follow a thread in a binary group.
(o) There are sufficient binary groups available that can be used (news.alt.binaries.pictures.autos, news:alt.binaries.pictures.autos.oltimers, news:alt.binaries.automobiles and news:alt.binaries.automobiles.carshows).

When you see strange symbols like :-) or :-0 you are looking at something called Smilies. They are often used to make clear something that appears to be serious is in fact a funny joke and should not be taken to seriously.

To avoid typing long words sometimes people use abbreviations. There is a list available of often used abbreviations. However, please dot not use them to often. Please write in a clear language.

Citroën is written with an ë. The newsgroup is written with an e since the Usenet systems can not handle characters beyond the ASCII range. I can imagine another more obscure reason. The brand is named after André Gustave Citroën, the founder of the company. He was the son of the Dutchman Lévi Citroen who changed his name into Citroën when he went to France. The group could have been named after Lévi Citroen.

The newsgroup is not a competition to the many mailing-lists and user-groups that are available. It can be used to direct people to the appropriate mailing-list and user-group.
