New on Usenet?
Most people that have access to the internet also have access to newsgroups (Usenet). The Usenet system however is not widely known therefore not many people use Usenet.

For the Dutch there is a page available to help you plug into the Usenet stream. It is hosted at Startpagina.nl and is named Usenet.startpagina. It has a number of links on how to setup your newsreader and how to make good readable postings.

In English language I have found the following links to help you plug in.
Newsgroups explained; The Usenet Newbie Project; Help by e-mail=>Welcome to Usenet; Lost in Usenet; dmoz Usenet; HowStuffWorks explains Usenet; Homepage news.newusers.questions.

If you have good links in your language please mail the links to me so I can add them to this page.

Get on a server!
If you are behind a (company) Firewall and can not use your newsreader but you can receive internet you could try the Google servers. You can post your messages (free) from Google.
An alternative is TalkAboutAutos, also free.

There are some free newsservers available that provide the newsgroup. The University of Berlin provides access to the Usenet but you need to subscribe for 10 Euro's.
Following a list of currently available read-only-newsservers, but that can change overnight. They will start your default newsreader.
news://freenews.netfront.net, news://free-text.usenetserver.com, news://allnews.readfreenews.net, news://202.108.36.140 .
A fresh list is available at Maxbaud.net.

Trickz
When you can read the group but can not post, there is a little trick that sometimes works. Select alt.test to post to, add manually alt.autos.citroen (so it reads alt.test; alt.autos.citroen), prepare your message and post it. Your newsreader will protest but when you ignore that error there is a good chance that your posting will reach the newsgroup.

But, as mentioned before, your ISP (Internet Service Provider) probably gives you direct access to the Usenet. Follow the instructions on the homepage of your ISP to get full access.
